On May 19th the Groundbreaking Ceremony for Phase II of the Grand Ridge K8 School was held on-site to kick off the construction phase for the new building additions. The kickoff of Phase II was an accumulation of effort of Watford Engineering, Inc. alongside DAG Architects, Donofro Architects, and Culpepper Construction.
Watford Engineering Inc. (WEI) is proud to share our role in the design of mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems for the new additions and renovations to Grand Ridge. The second phase of construction is approximately 68,000 SF and includes a new Cafetorium, Mini Gym, and Elementary wing with an Enhanced Hurricane Protection Area (EHPA). This adds to Phase I completed during the Summer of 2023, which included 14,000 SF of classroom renovations.
Phase III will complete the project with an additional 54,000 SF including a Middle School wing, Media Center, and Administration. This project underscores our commitment to delivering innovative, efficient, and sustainable engineering solutions tailored to the needs of the client.
Watford Engineering completed the following:
- Mechanical
Mechanical systems designed included air-cooled chillers with Variable Air Volume (VAV) air handling units for the Cafetorium and air-cooled direct expansion (DX) split systems for the remainder of the facilities. New Digital Controls are included to maintain indoor air quality and energy efficiency. WEI will also provide Commissioning services to ensure the systems will function as designed.
- Plumbing
Plumbing systems designed include sanitary drain, waste, and vent, natural gas, domestic hot, and domestic cold water. The design employed low flow fixtures and metering faucets to reduce water consumption, a high efficiency propane water heater serving the kitchen, electric storage water heating for the classrooms, and tankless electric for remote loads. Fixtures specified are commercial grade appropriate for the K12 School environment.
- Fire Protection
Because of poor water flow in the public water system, WEI designed a Fire Pump and distribution system to serve the campus. Building systems for Phase II are wet pipe with steel pipe distribution within the buildings.
