John Gallup & Associates, LLC, in collaboration with Amec Foster Wheeler, developed Landscape Plans as part of the overall design effort at Mountain Home National Cemetery's expansion site. The full scope encompassed predesign support from land acquisition phase through comprehensive master planning and design services. Design elements include interment options for caskets(pre-placed crypts, oversized, private vaults), and cremated remains (in-ground, urn vaults, ossuaries, and columbaria), memorial walls, Committal Shelter, and Administration Building, Public Information Center, and Maintenance Complex.
The existing National Cemetery was experiencing a deficit of burial space. The adjacent VA Medical Center (VAMC) campus had 54 acres of undeveloped land which was transferred to the National Cemetery Administration (NCA) for cemetery expansion. The new site offers a full range of interment options anchored by a new Administration/Public Information Center, Maintenance Complex, and Committal Service Shelter. JG&A developed landscape plans for all Phase One facilities. Each plan implemented professional environmental stewardship, considered surrounding land use,and stayed within a reasonable budget while producing innovative and sustainable landscaping for the cemetery.
