The COGAR Group Announces Security Officer of the Year!

Billy Brown, a member of the building security staff supporting the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (ABMD) Field Activity at Naval Support Facility Dahlgren, was recently named as the security officer of the year by his employer, The COGAR Group Ltd.
COGAR provides comprehensive consulting and security services to private industry and the federal government. Besides ABMD, customers also include the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and the FBI.
Brown was recognized by James Garcia, COGAR's president and chief executive officer, during an award presentation on May 26 for his outstanding performance and professionalism among his peers of over 60 personnel.
Brown's responsibilities in support of ABMD's headquarters at Dahlgren include processing visitors and providing access control, as well as providing building security and monitoring and responding to alarms. In addition, he reviews security operation documentation and enforces uniform and grooming standards for staff on duty.
He initially joined COGAR nine months before, as a part-time employee, and continues to work part-time while also holding down a full-time position with General Dynamics to provide technical support to the Air Force's 20th Space Control Squadron Detachment One at Dahlgren, a role he has fulfilled for three years.
Originally from Winnsboro, La., Brown previously served in the Navy as an information systems technician. His eight years on active duty was highlighted by tours on USS Saipan (LHA 2) homeported in Norfolk and with Headquarters U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii.
